The RSPCA needed a new animal centre in Canterbury as their existing
facilities were no longer appropriate. The site in Westbere used to house a Pig
Farm but had not been used for quite some time and had been left derelict.
Where possible we kept to the original building footprint
of the piggery. The centre has a barn aesthetic which sits comfortably on
the site.
The scheme includes housing for Dogs, Cats and small furies along with
service areas and staff zones which are grouped into a courtyard
arrangement. There is also a main building which comprises of a reception
area, RSPCA shop, managers office, meeting room and accommodation for
overnight staff.
The building process is due to go ahead in the near future depending on
fundraising.
